Good News from Greenville Elementary School
A Busy Season
The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends. It also can be a stressful time as we attend multiple social gatherings and shop for gifts. Normal homework times and bedtimes may be altered. It is important to be aware that this may also be a stressful time for children. If you feel that there are issues that may be affecting your child’s learning, please contact our guidance counselor, Mrs. Kirshner (878-3880), or me.
Greenville Website
Our website is up and running. The address is: www.gvmschools.org
We will continue to add new information as we continue to build the site. We will provide emergency information on the homepage. This will include school closings or delayed openings. An exciting feature of the website is the photo album for each classroom and one for the school. Please note that there is a tab at the top left of each picture that allows you to send the picture as an e-card. I’m sure that friends and family will enjoy seeing your children in different learning situations. We will be adding a tab for news from the PTA in the near future. You can also find the breakfast and lunch menu each month.
Technology Improvements
The school district has hired a new Technology Director, Kyle Hancock. Kyle has rewired the entire building and eliminated the need for wireless access to some rooms. He has also installed a new server, router, battery backup, and switch. He is in the process of increasing the memory and hard drives in all computers. He is replacing all software to see that it is up-to-date and that we have legal license to use each program.
Staff Email
All teachers now have email accounts. The email address is the first letter of the first name and the last name, for example, Mrs. Marlowe Gautreau would be: mgautreau@gvmschools.org.
Home of the Eagles
In an effort to increase school identity and spirit, we asked the students to suggest ideas for a school mascot and colors. After much discussion, the students voted and picked the Eagle as our mascot and evergreen and silver as our school colors.
Awards
At our school meetings, we have distributed "Warm Fuzzy" awards and Perfect Attendance awards. The purpose of the "Warm Fuzzy" award is to highlight positive behavior and attitude and to promote a culture of kindness and caring. Students may be nominated by any staff member or parent volunteer. The Perfect Attendance award recognizes students who are fortunate to experience good health and who make the effort to be present every day.
